"Uncle" Tom Baldwin |
| Body:
|
From Su's "Aunt" Carol about "Uncle" Tom:
There is definitely a probable cause to suspect cancer. [Tom'] blood test showed a very high elevation for CEA reading 14.4 and should be 2.5. The surgeon wants him to have an EGD (camera through the mouth down into the small colon) and both doctors want a Colonoscopy. We are meeting with the Gastroligist on Thurs. [June 10] and he is scheduled for Colonoscopy on Monday [June 14]. Hopefully they will also do the EGD at the same time while he is under. Most of you know that he has already had 3 CAT scans and a upper GI. They all agree that there is a problem but just don't know where! He has been having pain again since Sat. but not as severe as before. Trying to keep on a bland diet and may even go back on the liquid diet again to keep the pain level low.
****** Please pray for my mom's best friend's husband. Thank you, Su |

Update on Uncle Tom |
| Body:
|
Tom is still in the hospital. The intestines are still not functioning so he must have a drain tube into his stomach. This is so uncomfortable and has come out twice. Putting it back in is painful and hard to do. They are inserting a Pick Line into his vein in his shoulder/chest area as I write. Then he will be able to receive food nourishment through that and chemo if needed. It's been a week today with only saline solution to keep fluids flowing through his system so it's time for some better nourishment and since he can't put anything into his stomach because his intestines are not functioning, this is the solution. Will also be nice to have the IV line removed from his hand as that vain is becoming weakened.
Biopsy reports from Boston, Mass should be back by Thurs. They fear that it is a Sarcoma....the hardest kind of cancer to find and to treat.
Thank you for your continued prayers for intestines to start functioning. This has been far too long to be safe.
With love and thankfulness for each of you!

Laci Clark |
| Body:
|
I received an email this morning that our dear friends Keith and Lori
Clarks ten year old daughter Laci has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. They are currently stationed in Okinawa Japan but are working on a medivac to San Diego CA. Laci was taken the hospital with what they thought was meningitis but an MRI showed that she has a brain tumor. She had emergency surgery last night Okinawa time to place a shunt to relieve brain swelling and will have more surgery once she arrives stateside. Please pray for Keith, Lori and Laci and well as their other children Landry, Courtney and Hailey. These were close friends of ours there and Laci and Savannah were very very close.

Update on Laci |
| Body:
|
I just got off the phone with Laci's dad. The whole family was
medivacked to Trippler Hosptial in Hawaii yesterday and Laci is in the
pediatric ICU. The growth that was seen on the first MRI turned out to
actually be a brain infection (encephilitis) which is still very
serious. They are not sure how long they will be in Hawaii, could be
weeks or months depending on how Laci does. Keith said she is very
uncomfortable and although she did well on the flight she now is not
eating, doesn't want to talk or for anyone to touch her. Bless her heart, she's had a tough week. Keith's parents flew to Hawaii to
help out with Keith and Lori's other three children so they can stay at
the hospital with Laci. Here are a couple praise and prayer requests:
Praise - The whole family was able to fly together to Hawaii and they
had a safe, uneventful flight. I've made the same flight and it's
LONG! That Keith's parents are able to be there to help out with the
children. And that what was thought to be a tumor was an infection, while still serious, it gives her a better chance at recovery.
Prayer - That Laci's pain will ease up and that God will give her rest during this hard time in her life. That the doctor's are able to find out what caused this and how best to treat it. That their time at the hospital will be short so they can return home soon. Peace for Keith, Lori, Landry, Courtney and Hailey that their sister/daughter will heal.
Thank you so much for keeping our friends in your prayers!

Laci Update from her dad |
| Body:
|
Thank you so much for your prayers and support. We have had a very sudden and dramatic turn of events today. Laci was doing so great the last 2 days we thought we had beat this and were on our way home. This morning was some good news with very good report on the MRI. The swelling in the cerebrum has shrunk dramatically, almost all gone.
However, Laci began the morning with a headache which quickly progressed and began some vomiting again. Blood test showed very positive for infection. Spinal tap also showed very high white blood cell count, meaning infection. Initial lab findings point to bacterial
meningitis, Neisseria. This is extremely bad and dangerous. Not sure how she got it. The hole in her head has been leaking since the drain was removed Thursday. They placed another suture today to cinch it up. This would be the most likely source of infection but the particular bacteria is not usually found in the skin so things don't really add up. Her CSF fluid was tested on Thursday and was negative, the drain catheter was also tested and found to be negative. Today has been very emotionally
draining and very frustrating day. They wanted us, the whole family, to take some prophylactic antibiotic, we waited almost 5 hours for it and finally left the hospital and will wait until tomorrow to get it.
My parents left yesterday since Laci was looking so good and my newborn
niece is having some heart problems so they wanted to get back. Now my
mom feels terrible that she left us. Laci has slept most of the day and looks pretty lifeless like before when this whole thing started. She is on morphine and Toradol again. It seems like we are starting all over.
She will most likely be in the hospital for 2 more weeks now. They
moved her back into the Pediatric ICU. We have had so many doctors it is hard to keep up with them all and of course they don't all agree with each other. However, we know that it was caught early and so all think her chances are good.
Please continue to pray.
Keeping the faith, running the race with endurance.

Uncle Tom's Surgery |
| Body:
|
just got home from the hospital....stayed the night. Tom is in good spirits, taking pain medication by pushing a button which he forgets to push until I see him wiggling too much, is uncomfortable from the tube from his stomach out through his nose and oxygen going into his nose. He only slept in 10 min. intervals. This has not stopped him from making wonderful jokes and flattering the nurses. He is in a private room and calls it the Hilton! The nursing staff is fabulous! Couldn't ask for better care. Tina is going to stay with him right now and Cookie will be there around 2. I'm going to bed for a few hours and then back....probably for the night... We'll see. Surgery was about 3 hours long. Dr. Wang was totally surprised to find NOTHING in the small intestines, the liver, the colon, the kidneys, the stomach.....none of the main organs! Wow, your prayers are awesome and God's healing is beyond words!!! However, he did find something strange in the Suspended Mesentery and called Pathothology up to take a look. The Pathologist was also baffled. So, they took 3 biopsies and will have results in 3 days!!! Wait again. What is the Suspended Mesentery?? In this case it is the fattie layered tissue that supports (holds) the small intestines in place. It is filled with nerves and blood vessels. (Do hope I got that right.) Anyway, it can't be radiated as fat tissue dissolves when heated. I think he also said it isn't affected by chemo so......he talked about Steroid Therapy but none of us remember if that is if it is in the blood vessels area or???? Will await the doctor's visit this morning to find out more. Love you all! Please keep praying, it isn't over yet but still in God's wonderful healing hands! Carol |

Uncle Tom NO CANCER |
| Body:
|
God is SO good! Biopsy reports are back from Harvard University.....no cancer found! Yes there is a rare problem with the Mesentery (the fatty tissue that holds our organs in place and houses nerves and blood vessels that feed the small intestines). Tom is only one of about 50 persons who have been diagnosed with Mesenteric Panniculitis. Is there a treatment???? Maybe not one that man knows about but one that only the Lord will heal. Why the high CEA count?? This disease might trigger that but we will also have a Dermatologist check out a large black mole [he has]. His tube has been removed from his nose/stomach and they started him on a clear liquid diet yesterday afternoon and this morning switched to a soft diet. Prayerfully he will be able to tolerate that, and if so, they will disconnect the feeding tubes and he will be able to come home tomorrow with only the permanent pick line which they placed in the under side of his left arm. He says he is going to kiss the front door when he gets home!! I need to go wash it!! We can not thank all of you enough for the hours of prayers and we can not Praise the good Lord enough for answering your petitions. Of course prayers are still needed as he faces the unknown of this disease. He loves to visit, so those of you who are close by please "Come on over"!!! Lovingly, Carol |
